Development four- Inspiration from Chelsea Paige

For these images I wanted to use the style of Chelsea Paige to portray mental illness through the use of the body and words. I kept the subjects identity anonymous in the images as this is something Chelsea Paige does in her work, as well as to create an ambigous feeling within the shoot. The images are all black and white to create a high amount of contrast between the body and the words, allowing the words to have a bigger impact.

This image portrays part of a womans body covered in black writing. Part of the womans arms, hands and chest are visible in the image however, her identity is hidden from the picture. Even though the words have been cut off as a rsult of he composition of certain body parts, it is clear that the words say SAD, LOST and DEPRESSED.
Personally, I think this image has been successful as it portrays the emotions and feelings that accompany a mental illness through the use of words. The use of a naked body with hands placed as they are create a feeling of vunerability within the image that is then emphasised through the use of particular words such as SAD. I made the image black and white as this is something that is  consistent in Chelsea Paiges images. Furthermore, the use of black and white creates a simple yet striking effect within the images, highligting certain aspects of the image such as the words.

This image portrays the back of a young girls body-covered in black writing. The photo is black and white creating a fair amount of contrast within the image as well as allowing the black writing to stand out against the subjects body. The subject is positioned in the centre of the frame allowing the viewers eye to focus straight in on her and the writing on the body which is the main message behind the image.
I think this image has been fairly successful in using words to convey the message behind the picture. However, if I was to shoot this image again I would change my lighting settings to create more of a contrast between the figure and the background. Furthermore, I would make the writing darker and thicker allowing it to stand out even more.

For this image I combined the style of both Kayleigh Von Grimm and Chelsea Paige. I wanted to experiment with Grimm's style of double exposure whilst incorporating Paige's style of words and lighting to portray mental illness. This image portrays three different figures all of the same subject within one image. The figures are in different positions, with one hunched over as if they are in pain, the second standing straight and the third clutching their hair. The image is black and white creating a large amount of contrast, something which is further emphasised by the patchy background and graininess of the image.
I think this image has been a successful experiment. I wanted to experiment with various different effects on photoshop, something I achieved in this image. The chaos of the background adds to the overall effect of how someone with a mental health condition may feel within themselves. I wanted to portray the inner turmoil of the subject through a variety of different aspects.
