For these images I wanted to use still life to portray a mental illness through the use of objects. Both John William Keedy and Daniel Regan explore the crevices of a mental illness through objects rather than people, creating an alternative perspective rather than an obvious straight forward meaning behind the images which are portraying a mental illness.
I shot this image using myself and a another person as well as a puddle. The water on the ground distorts the image creating a feeling of confusion, paralleling the feelings of confusion that may be felt by someone with a mental illness. The image is quite highly saturated allowing the figures that have been highlighted by the natural sunlight to stand out against the vivid blue sky. I think this image has been extremely successful as it portrays my concept of mental illness but not in an obvious way. The use of water and the different angle in which the image has been taken create depth, making the viewer question the intent behind the image until they then either come up with their own conclusion or my meaning behind the image.
