Back To The Future
Irina Werning loves old photographs, but rather than enjoying them for their vintage, retro like quality, she prefers to imagine how and whether she can recreate the picture, to show the transition in time. I chose to research Irina Werning because I want to also recreate old photographs just as she does, but rather than showing the transition through time, I want to focus on the transition of how a mental illness can take over someone at any time.
Analysis
Objectively, this image shows a young girl wearing a pink dress with green patterns. It then shows another image, of what is assumed to be the same girl, grown up with a very similar dress on in the same pose. However, the difference is, the young woman now has longer hair, with many different tattoos and piercings. Subjectively, I think this image is very interesting because it has taken something as simple as a holiday photograph, with a whole new image that shows the transition in time and how the girl has grown from a young baby to a young woman. I like the contrast this image creates through a baby photograph and a photograph of the same baby, now grown up who looks very world conscious but still as happy and carefree as she was as a baby.
I have decided that I will no longer carry on researching Irina Werning as I don't think she completely fits in with my project and my theme of mental illness. Furthermore, when it came to responding to her work, I found it very difficult due to various different reasons. It was difficult to mimic the wardrobe, lighting and the location that the original photos had been taken in, therefore, the images would have been poor quality.
